Snyder Park Road will be closed to westbound traffic at Plum Street (you will be able to access the Whitewater parking lot). The road will also be closed to eastbound traffic at the Western Avenue entrance. Please note that inclement weather could extend this closure. All other entrances to the park will remain open. Thank you for your patience and understanding, the railroad trestle on the eastern end of Snyder Park is being repaired due to storm damage. While repairing the trestle, it has been determined that one of the rails in the crossing, just west of the Whitewater parking lot must be replaced as well.

Healthy Community Award

Healthy Community Award

In a report titled Success Stories, the citizens of Springfield and Clark County were touted for stepping up to the challenge of becoming more physically fit. Accolades were received from the Ohio Department of Health through its program, Creating Healthy Communities. The report provided a photograph of Warder Fit Stop, which is just steps off the bike path that runs through the downtown. This outdoor fitness area is completely free to use.

On the heels of this recognition, both of Ohio’s legislative houses followed with additional honors. The Ohio Senate and the Ohio House of Representatives, with individual acts of the 132nd General Assembly, congratulated the City of Springfield on being presented with a “2016 Healthy Community Award by the Ohio Department of Health, Bureau of Creating Healthy Communities.”

Further recognition must go to employees of the Clark County Combined Health District and National Trail Parks and Recreation District for their motivation to seek out the community enhancement project that came to fruition as the Warder Fit Stop.

Mid-Century Modern West (Bicycle Tour)

Springfield architect John L. Kline held a lifelong affinity for Yellow Springs, which was reciprocated in numerous commissions. Among these, his modernist residential designs of the 1950s and 1960s, reminiscent of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Usonian architecture, helped shape the village’s avant-garde aesthetic. Join us on this bicycle tour as we examine the exteriors of some of Kline’s best mid-century designs. A stop at the Vernet Ecological Center completes the tour. Meet outside the Yellow Springs Visitor Center, 101 Dayton Street, on your bicycle.
