SPRINGFIELD (Nov. 22, 2019) ─ The Springfield Police Division’s Citizens Police Academy concluded its Fall 2019 class Thursday, Nov. 21.
The graduation was held at the police substation at 17 Johnny Lytle Ave. Thursday night. The ceremony was followed by a potluck dinner. Nineteen people graduated from the class.
Citizens Police Academy is a 12-week course that is free and open to the public. Meeting once a week, it takes citizens through the ins and outs of police work, from investigations work to traffic enforcement, special operations team (SWAT), and active shooter response. This is the 24th year that the police division has offered the course.
Graduates have the opportunity to join the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association (CPAAA).
