Volunteer Boards and Commissions
- Airport Advisory Board (Studies matters related to the Springfield-Beckley Municipal Airport and advises the City Commission on policy matters and regulations pertaining to the airport.)
- Board of Zoning Appeals (Interprets the adopted Zoning Code and makes determinations on filed appeals of Zoning Code regulations.)
- Board of Building Appeals (Interprets the adopted state building codes and makes determinations on filed appeals. Designated seats of expertise include architect, structural engineer, mechanical engineer, attorney, and organized labor.)
- City Planning Board (Reviews and makes recommendations to the City Commission on requests for rezonings, development plans, etc.)
- Civil Service Commission (Reviews matters related to personnel classified as civil service positions including job recruitment and testing.)
- Community Beautification Committee (Volunteers organize flower plantings, manage the annual Home of the Week contest, and honor commercial businesses for their beautification efforts.)
- Community Grant Advisory Board (Providing input and recommendations regarding the City’s community development and housing needs, shall assist the City Commission in the formulation of the strategies to address those needs and to assist in the selection of community development, implementation, and evaluation of the City’s consolidated plan, serve as liaison with local citizen organizations involved in community development, and perform such other duties as the City commission may assign the CGAB.)
- Community Police Advisory Team (Reviews the policies and procedures of the Springfield Police Division ensuring diversity, inclusion, transparency, and equity for all citizens and employees along with personnel recruitment efforts.)
- Historic Landmarks Commission (Monitors and educates the public on the preservation of historical integrity of residential and commercial properties located within designed historic districts. Designated seats include historic preservation, architect, and at-large positions.)
- Human Relations Board (Studies any conditions having an adverse effect on inter- group relations in the city and the problems of prejudice, intolerance, bigotry and discrimination as they affect the safety and general welfare of the city.)”
