SPRINGFIELD (May 6, 2024) – The next phase of the water meter replacement project will take place in some northwest and southwest neighborhoods, according to a map released by the City.
Over the next four years the Utilities Department will be changing every meter in the City of Springfield. Crews will work through all quadrants of the city throughout 2024 (images below show the quadrants where replacements will occur next).
Crews will visit each home to begin work; if someone is home, an attempt to change out the meter will be made then. Otherwise, the City will leave a notice giving the property 10 business days to make an appointment for the changeover.
The current meters are 30 years old and have outlived their life expectancy and accuracy ratings. The new meters will be able to be read remotely via six fixed based antennas that will be installed around the city.
The process of changing the meter shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes. Crews will need access to the basement or utility room in the property. If the property owner makes an appointment we will require an adult, who doesn’t have to be the owner, to be there for the duration of the work.
Appointments can be made Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Fridays 8 a.m. to 4 p. m. Call the Service Center at 937-525-5800 to schedule an appointment.
