Community Information Coordinator

The Community Information Coordinator is responsible for the hands on development and management of all forms of communication with the community, including, but not limited to, marketing, City promotion, media relations, Springfield Channel 5, and website/social media site development. The Community Information Coordinator will coordinate the preparation and distribution of various media pieces regarding city services, projects, and policies. This employee will coordinate and implement public information projects and programs for the City as well as perform duties and carry out special communication projects for all Departments of the City as directed by the City Manager. This employee must exercise personal initiative and independent professional judgment on a daily basis.

This position requires, at a minimum, a Bachelors’ Degree in journalism, communications, public relations, public administration or a related field and three (3) years of experience in public administration, business management, journalism, mass media communications, public relations or an equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. This professional position requires advanced communication skills, both written and oral, and specialized knowledge related to public administration. Requires knowledge of current principles, practices, techniques and objectives of public information and media relations programs, marketing, website development, public administration and project management; advanced knowledge and abilities in mass communication using various media, public speaking and written communications. Should have previous experience working with marketing, public relations, advertising, printing or media production firms.  Must be articulate and concise in written and oral communications; having a good command of the English language.
