The City of Springfield holds a firm commitment to respecting the privacy of users who visit the City’s public websites. The following policies are in effect for all of the websites owned and operated by the City of Springfield.

Automatically Collected Information:

When a visitor requests information from our site, our web servers automatically collect general technical information such as the client’s IP address, web browsing software, time and date of the visit, files requested, etc. This information is then used to create statistics reports which allow us to assess the number of visitors to the different sections of our sites, identify what information is of most and least interest, determine technical design specifications, monitor system performance and security, and help us make our site more useful to visitors.

We do not automatically record e-mail addresses or other personally identifying information.

Voluntary Information:

There may be areas of a City of Springfield website where a visitor is asked to voluntarily provide personal information (e.g. to request follow-up customer service or to participate in a detailed survey). Whenever such information is requested, we will clearly indicate that the decision to provide this information is strictly voluntary. This information will then only be used to facilitate the fulfillment of such service or information requests.

The City of Springfield will not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise distribute any visitor information for commercial purposes. We do not use any information obtained from our websites for mass or unsolicited mailings. We will disclose information we maintain when required to do so by law; for example, in response to a court order or a subpoena. We may also choose to disclose such information in response to a law enforcement agency’s request.

City of Springfield websites have security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control.

City of Springfield websites contain links to other sites whose information practices may be different than our own. Visitors should consult the other sites’ privacy policies, as we have no control over information that is submitted to, or collected by, these external parties.
