Municipal Industrial Pretreatment Program

This program regulates the commercial and industrial discharges to the collection system.  Industrial wastes can harmfully impact streams, damage sewers, and interfere with treatment plant operations; so industrial customers use pollution control technologies to remove pollutants from their wastewater before releasing them into the public sewer system. The program is regulated through the use of Chapter 916 of the Codified Ordinances of the City of Springfield, or better known as the Sewer Use Ordinance, which lists the definitions, requirements, penalties, and restrictions associated with this program.
