MONARCH BUTTERFLY FESTIVAL

Activities will include Monarch Education, Live Bluegrass Bands, featuring the The Muleskinners, Penicle Ridge and Mad River Railroad, Butterfly Walk, Prairie Walk, arts and crafts, food trucks, children’s crafts including a collaborative art project sponsored by the Springfield Museum of Art (Ohio). Youth can enter the Monarch Butterfly Poetry Contest by writing an original poem about Monarchs and submitting to National Trail by July 29. Poetry contest is open to youth ages 8-15. Winners will be selected in three age groups. Sponsored by Veterinary Services of Springfield – “Springfield’s Pet Care Leader”

Lowry Bridge Construction

This project consists of the rehabilitation of the Lowry Bridge over the Little Miami Trail with minimal bridge approach work. R. B Jergens is the contractor for this job, which started on August 1, 2016. The contractor is on site and currently working on removing the existing bridge deck and deteriorated abutment and wingwalls. Detour routes are posted for the road and the Little Miami Trail Bikeway, as this street will be closed approximately 120 days during construction.

The crews are putting up the wooden bikeway railings in various locations along the route. As crews are working around the road crossings, please keep an eye open for construction equipment entering and leaving the site.
Funding for this project was provided by ODOT and ODNR, no City funds were involved.
