Code Compliance

Code compliance helps keep Springfield's neighborhoods safe, clean, and well-maintained. Our offices inspect residential and commercial properties throughout the city to address issues related to:

  • Vacant and unsecured structures requiring repair and/or demolition
  • Unlawful yard accumulations and exterior property conditions
  • Weeds and overgrown vegetation
  • Trees and shrubs blocking public sidewalks or right-of-way
  • Graffiti
  • Zoning violations
  • Other private property use and maintenance concerns

We focus on working with property owners to fix issues whenever possible and provide time to correct violations. When needed, the division coordinates repairs, clean-ups or demolition and manages programs that support neighborhood improvement and the responsible reuse of the vacant properties.
